some fanfic i really enjoy

i read a lot of fanfic tbh. it all began with a game called UNDERTALE............ this is just stuff i've been reading (or rereading) recently and wanted to share though

Pokemon (Anime) - Chosen One's Adventure(s) with Legendaries by Kinrah

the legendary pokemon have a chatroom. ash ketchum's journey is starting and they wanna keep a close eye on his journey without interfering. ........except ash somehow found his way into the chat and has been talking to the kanto birds for a couple of months. and things spiral from there! currently in the johto arc, they just finished their version of Pokemon 3: The Movie™

this fic does a really fuckin good job at tying the anime and the games and the movies and literally everything else into a pretty damn cohesive package, backfilling stuff from later entries into the earlier parts and making some really neat changes as well. it does a lot for its characters and their arcs which is no small feat considering. the many many pokemon (and humans) involved

one thing i will really applaud it for is just the way the narrative is told. because the thing with the pokemon anime (and movies and games etc etc) is that you're probably pretty familiar with a lot of it. or at least certain bits and info and such. but since it is presented in the form of a (very homestuck-inspired though it really becomes its own thing) chatroom you're informed of what's going on (and how they're doing as well) by their reactions and what they focus on and talk about and stuff. and that precedent of "well since it's familiar you can just imagine what's going on yourself" really lends well to when it obviously and inevitably strays from the source to do something new and interesting given the whole situation detailed above

OG: Who’s got eyes on
[ADMIN] DW: Mew and Suicune.
[ADMIN] DW: As I understand it it’s an… inauspicious start.
US: sounds to me like that pikachu needs a kick up the ass
OG: Wait what
OG: Pikachu
OG: What happened to his Squirtle
[MOD] DD: he overslept.
[MOD] DD: he arrived at the lab looooong after the other new trainers and whoops.
[MOD] DD: he gets a misbehaving pikachonk.
OG: How do you know that
OG: Are you the Pikachu
[MOD] DD: ha i wish!
[MOD] DD: but srsly i was a pidgey looking in through the window.
